Bray Head to GreystonesO.K firstly this is really a Wicklow walk, it’s in here because of its accessibility from the DART (Dublin Area Rapid Transit) line.
Our walk begins on the Promenade, which once gave Bray the nickname of Ireland’s Brighton, because of the truly beautiful facade of its beach front. From here we scale Bray Head with its summit at 241m, which for such a relatively low height ,offers us some really spectacular views over land and sea. Next we join the cliff walk to Greystones. This section of our hike is a real treat for photographers with superb sea views and shots of the rail line and tunnels. We stop in the quiet fishing village of Greystones for coffee and a snack then retrace our steps with the views in the opposite direction. During the walk we will have time to chat about the railway itself, the history of the landowners, smugglers, merchants and even the furtive transporting of the remains of one of Ireland’s greatest national heroes. This walk has an option of returning by train from Greystones. Difficulty: Moderate Time: 5-6 Hrs Distance: 14km Round trip Total accent: 350m Terrain: footpaths and grass track Boots recommended but at least good walking shoes Other gear weather appropriate. |
Dun Laoghaire to Killiney
This is a wonderfull coastal walk, taking in three harbours, a famous Mortello tower, a close look at Dalkey Island, and wonderful views across Dublin Bay. It has an option at the end, of a hike up Killiney Hill for those with any energy left. For the most part this is a level walk and is easily accessible from the DART station returning from Killiney by rail.

Howth Head Loop
It’s easy to forget that you are not very far from the City on this, one of our two coastal hikes. Circumnavigating the Hill of Howth this 4 to 5 hour leisurely hike grants us truly outstanding views of Dublin Bay and the east coast, with its background of the Mourne and Wicklow Mountains. Along the way we see Martello towers, lighthouses, smugglers caves and we talk of heroes, tragedies, angels, pirate queens, mutinies, and the mystery of the hitchhikers. Hopefully the fresh Sea air will have given you a hearty appetite, because at the end you can treat yourself to some of Beshoffs famous fish and chips (we even have a story about him) delicious.
